OnLive held a press conference at GDC2009 - OnLive which was started by WebTV founder Steve Perlman and former Eidos CEO Mike McGarvey, are planning to launch a system that will digitally distribute games. Games will be available from large publishers like Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Take-Two, Warner Bros, Take-Two, THQ, Epic Games, Eidos, Atari Interactive, and Codemasters.

The system is designed to allow players to stream on-demand games at the highest quality onto any Intel-based Mac or PC running XP or Vista, regardless of how powerful the computer.

So is this something that's going to change gaming forever? or just something that's going to launch and fail shortly after? Well if OnLive can make good there claims and launch this year with a reliable platform then they stand a very good chance of making a big entry into the world of gaming.

This is really amazing. Great idea. Most of the times games have to search out here and there for their favorite games. onlive.com has really presented a wonderful solution for this problem

Thats the clever thing about it, onlive will use it's own algorithms to compress the video so it's more efficient for it's purpose. At the end of that video there is a question and answers bit which gives some good info.

The service will start if in the US at the end of the year if all goes to plan and bandwidth shouldn't be an issue if you have a good connection.

So, they really count on good connection speeds (which is a prospect of the future). My guess is that there might be a small lag for the time being. How would they handle multiplayer games?

it's normal though, world is moving from selling hardware to selling access to hardware now.

sell hardware = sell once

sell access to hardware = you get money every month from him. :verymad:

to compress videos, i assume it is going to be like streaming the video, but the problem is going to the latency timers nothing else.

unless they can get something live avs compression ( of winamp) which renders partial image on user screen, so by relatively small size one can get huge video renderings
