Hi Zacharei

Welcome to the forums, firstly no these are not the official Onlive Forums :) - I've been following the news of Onlive and thought I'd setup a forum so I could see what other people think about it.

Welldone for coming up for an idea involving on demand games. I'm sure on demand gaming as a concept has been thought about for years and it's good to see a company taking the plunge into a whole different way of looking at something.

I'll answer your list from what I've already read & watched about onlive below:

Quote:
1. How are you going to pay for all the servers?

Onlive won't be looking to cover cost's in the short term and have already been developing this idea for a number of years. When Onlive are up and running I would expect their revenue would be generated from a number of different sources, lets say:

- Annual/monthly subscriptions
- Onlive microconsole sales
- Profit from Games sold/rented using onlive
- Sponsorship & Advertising

Quote:
2. What about the users who want a hard copy of the product?

They would have to buy a copy for another platform, Onlive would be solely online platform.

Quote:
3. What about routers and wireless connections?

You would use the equipment you already have from your isp. The Onlive microconsole just connects to your current network connection. But you will require an internet connection of at least 1.5mb for SD & 5mb for HD.

Quote:
4. What about Mods, that's something that PC gamers enjoy, and I myself enjoy as well?

You would be limited to what was available on onlive.

Quote:
5.How will this community stay connected?

Through onlive servers, some clever friend interactions shown in this onlive video around 17 mins in.

Quote:
6.Are your servers fully capable of serving a lot of people?

I'm sure Onlive will have plenty of servers in place for this and the number will only grow over time as the user base grows.

Quote:
7.Is there anyway to speed up the speed of light?

Yes, run with a torch  (the tourch has to be turned on for this to work)

Theoretically the concept of video game steaming is not only logical, it's cost effective. I'm sure if they market this right, and get enough support this really could change the way we view video games as a whole. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing though.

I dont think that this will be much successful. Coz you need high bandwidth to use this and in most of countries operators dont provide unlimited downloading

Come on 2 Mbps is available in many countries. Although all those countries who actively participate in internet has more than 2 Mpbs

you are right,

well havent' you heard necessity is the mother of all inventions.

not so long ago we used to say that online graphics are not useful, then came flash and it changed the internet.

then we used to say online video is not practical and then youtube came and changed the world.

then we also said online moveis can't be happening, then zshare came and changed the landscape.

then we said online gaming on demand is not practical, then onlive came and changed the world( maybe, but why not day dream)

true.

there is always a time for these things,

as long as people are willing to pay for the service, market is going to suppy.

no matter what the situation or technology.

I think it comes down to connection speed in the different countries. You`ll need something like 1GB. I`m almost positive they`ll fail in Australia, the connection is outrageous.

Well, companies like Atari, Eidos, Codemasters, Electronic Arts, Epic, Take-Two, THQ, Ubisoft and Warner Bros are in, so I guess there is a great chance that the system will work.

It is an exceptional idea, but whenever it works or not remains to be seen. If the bills go largely towards server upgrades though, I can see such a thing working out well.

It's the perfect idea, No more compatibility issues!
