So Onlive is going to be launched soon. Does anyone truly believe that it will kill the Video game console like the Wii, and Playstation 3? In my opinion, it won't just yet. Perhaps if they can really establish themselves, gaming consoles will slowly die.

i don't think consoles will be dead just yet.

however all it will take is a reliable highspeed connection, that is available 24x7 and wireless, is going to change how we see and use computing online..

no doubt about it.

and even if onlive fails, still this type of business won't die,

it's too profitable to be left like that.

at least onlive has started to change the way we see our hardware

I kinda doubt it. Even though $ for $, people might save large amounts of money, not everyone can get internet of that speed for the video stream. Besides, not everyone is up for paying monthly costs at any level.

Now, if some excellent compression methods were used, then people on slower connections might get something out of it.

I think for the people that live in the areas with the faster internet connection, this could very much start too see the downfall of the gaming console. I wouldnt say just yet that it will be more popular than the gaming console, because not many people are aware of this type of thing, so it could take a few years even more to get people realising that streaming games is possible

Microsoft already has a contract with Netflix to allow their movie streaming services onto the 360, so I don't see why they wouldn't do that with OnLive if it got large enough. Consoles (including held-helds) will be a very, very hard thing to get rid of.

People also need to remember that if the server goes down, then that's a real kick in the balls to everyone. If they don't have a console, they might have to go outside and play.

Console popularity will definitely lessen, but like everyone above said...OnLive will require a pricey monthly fee and a decent connection, which, believe it or not, not everyone has.

I'm sure that there would be 99.9% uptime and backup servers all over the place for that .1% downtime. I know that servers don't take much to reset, so it shouldn't be an issue.
